I am getting a chance to do some embedded programming with the latest Raspberry PI micro computer and a 7″ touchscreen display. The pair can be purchased locally (at Frys electronics here on the West Coast) for under $ 150. If you do some online shopping, you can probably get closer to $ 100. I am experimenting with Qt programming tools, which provides a very powerful programming environment. We are running the Qt tools inside a VirtualBox LINUX environment, mostly on WINDOWS laptops. This is a much more sophisticated development suite than the Arduino tools I have been using.
If you have not already seen it, the Raspberry PI is a powerful little computer, with a full set of audio and video interfaces on-board. I will still be using mostly Arduino boards for now, due to the lower cost, and the fact that I do not need the additional horsepower or interfaces that the RasPI provides.
