WSPR with Yaesu FTDX-3000 – Part 2: Getting Receive and Spots working

After my initial issues with WSPR on this radio (see Part1 WSPR Post), I did some online searching. I found that there is a frequency Offset setting on the FTDX-3000 for “Other SSB Modes,” which I assume means Digital Modes. There are many settings, and each is briefly described in the User Manul, but there is not a thorough description of these that I can find.

The setting of interest here is # 070 – “MODE DATA OTHER SHIFT (SSB)” the default is 1000 Hz. If you set this to 0 Hz, your displayed WSPR signals will now be in the 1500 Hz region. This is apparently what WSJTX software wants to see. Once you do this, you can use the Band-Hopping functions of WSJTX and everything should work fine.

I did find that when messing around manually with the radio, I sometimes had to manually set it back to USB-D. Once I did this, all was working.

Sending Spots

If you have configured your callsign and Grid Locator in WSJTX Settings, which you should, you just have to check the Box “Upload Spots” to send the Spots you are creating to the Network. The usefulness of WSPR depends greatly upon people from many locations sending Spots for received stations. You can see below, that once I checked this Box, my Spots are being reported, and I can also query them in the global WSPR database. This is a great tool for station and antenna evaluation.

Go have some fun with WSPR. I will Post more as I learn more. Next up will be using the Transmit feature to become part of the global WSPR Beacon Network.
