UPDATE 9/7/2026 – now we know this is the IC-7110 all-band/mode rig for portable, mobile, or “shack in the box” use. It covers all HF bands plus 2 meters and 440. It appears to be the much-needed follow-on to the IC-7000 which I used for several years as a mobile station for contest, mainly the VA QSO party. The IC-7000 was a great and versatile rig. I did not care for the control head on the Ic-7100, but that was also a good radio with all band/mode capabilities. This is exciting news. I may have to buy one, but I always wait at least 6 months after a new product announcement before I buy.

I am just reading that ICOM has a new product concept that will be unveiled at Dayton. Any new product from ICOM is always met with grand expectations. Here is a link to a discussion about some possibilities about the new radio:
If it is truly a new mobile radio, as some are speculating, I say it’s about time! I had an IC-7000 for several years and it was a great mobile do-it-all radio. Detachable head, covered HF, VHF, and UHF, and it was a real pleasure to operate. To me, the IC-7100 was a complete disappointment. I never liked the strange detachable head with the base stand.
Here’s hoping for something big from ICOM for mobile/portable use
